Hundreds of Triad area consumers spent the weekend of May 17 and 18 touring the homes featured in the 2008
Showcase of Remodeled Homes. The Showcase featured a record ten homes, the work of nine members of NAHB Remodelers.
The Showcase, which began as an HBA event in 2003, is designed as a public marketing event, where consumers have the opportunity to view remodeled homes and speak directly with the remodeling companies who performed the work. Showcase Chairperson Ron Schwartz, Audio Video One, Inc., describes the event as “a great way to see lots of trends and new products in one weekend.” Additionally, all event proceeds go to benefit a local charity.
For the 2008 event, Partners for Homeownership was selected as the charity to receive all Showcase proceeds.
Partners for Homeownership is a Winston-Salem nonprofit organization that develops new housing or rehabilitates existing
housing for sale to area families with annual incomes around $30,000. Partners for Homeownership helps prospective
homeowners prepare for the home buying process through a series of workshops and one-on-one counseling. Partners for
Homeownership also offers special financing programs for first time homebuyers that combine bank and public financing to
make these homes affordable.
Thus far, response from members and consumers who took part in the event have been extremely positive, as
seen through the experience of one participating builder, who – as a result of the Showcase - has already scheduled twelve
appointments with potential clients. The success of the event is due to the hard work of Chairperson Ron Schwartz, Audio
Video One, Inc., Co-chairperson Chuck Hicks, Icon Builders LLC, participating builders, the entire NAHB Remodelers
group and corporate sponsors STOCK Building Supply and the Winston-Salem Journal.
Tickets for the Showcase were sold for $7.00, and the NAHB Remodelers hopes to have the total raised for Partners
for Homeownership presented within the next few months, once all event-related invoices have been received.
